Cuchara, Colorado — Last ski season was a big one for Cuchara Mountain Park. Chair 4 opened to the public for the first time since 2000. Previously, the only way up the hill was by earning your turns or by a sled attached to a snowcat. With this milestone, Cuchara is still showing that it’s thinking big for its future.
This week, Cuchara Mountain Park announced that it is adding a new trail for the 2026-27 season. This will be a new beginner trail and will start near the top of Chair 4. Details are sparse so far, but it looks to be a mellow trail through the woods.
This isn’t the only project that Cuchara has going on this offseason. The ski area is replacing thousands of feet of snowmaking pipe, improving snowmaking efficiency. A fundraiser to buy an excavator for that project is currently ongoing. They are also experimenting with snow blanket methods, which helped the ski area host a rail jam in June. Cuchara also acquired a half pipe tuner from Andes Tower Hills.
A plan was also announced earlier this offseason to install three pony lifts to serve a beginner area, terrain park, and a snow tubing zone. However, it’s unclear whether this project will happen because of the limited funds raised.
