The X Games are expanding their winter competition into a new era with the launch of the MoonPay X Games League Winter Season. The inaugural season will bring top ski and snowboard athletes to three destinations across North America and Europe, with the first event scheduled for January 2027.
The new league format will add a season-long championship race to X Games winter competition. Instead of athletes competing just for individual results, performances will also earn points for one of four X Games Clubs.
X Games Winter League Begins in Aspen
The inaugural XGL Winter Season will begin January 29th through the 31st, 2027, at Buttermilk in Aspen, Colorado. The venue has hosted X Games winter competition for decades and will serve as the starting point for the new club-based competition.
Athletes will begin accumulating points toward the season standings during the Aspen event before the league moves to Canada. The opening weekend will also feature major musical performances, with ZHU scheduled to perform Friday night and Marshmello headlining Saturday.

Calgary Will Host First Canadian X Games
The league will then move to Calgary, Alberta, from February 19th through 21st. The event will mark the first X Games competition held in Canada, with WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park serving as the venue.
Calgary will represent the middle stop of the three-event season, giving athletes and clubs another opportunity to build their standings before the championship. The weekend will combine ski and snowboard competition with live music, including performances from Levity on Friday and Steve Aoki on Saturday.
The Canadian stop could prove particularly important in the overall club standings as athletes attempt to build momentum heading into the season finale.
Ruka to Host X Games Winter Championship
The inaugural winter season will conclude April 9th through 11th at Ruka Ski Resort in Finland. The European finale will determine the first XGL Winter champions after three stops of competition.
Ruka is an established destination on the international winter sports calendar and will provide the setting for the league’s first championship event. Electronic music duo Adriatique will perform Saturday night as the season comes to a close.
The international finale also represents a significant expansion for X Games winter competition, extending the league beyond its traditional North American footprint.
Four Clubs Will Compete for the Championship
Four X Games Clubs will compete throughout the winter season. XC Golden State, XC New York, XC Park City and XC Whistler will each field five men and five women for a total of 40 athletes.
The rosters will be selected during the MoonPay X Games League Winter Draft on September 16th at Cosm Los Angeles. More than 180 eligible ski and snowboard athletes are expected to be part of the selection pool.
The clubs will be led by General Managers Jonny Moseley for XC Golden State, Dave Sypniewski for XC New York, Sharalee “Haze” Hazen for XC Park City and Ryan Stutt for XC Whistler.
The new format follows the successful introduction of the XGL during the 2026 summer season. That championship came down to the final event, with XC New York defeating XC Tokyo by just 10 points. Additional details regarding disciplines, athlete rosters, broadcast coverage and fan experiences will be announced ahead of the winter season.
