Hokkaido, Japan — Japan is becoming an up-and-coming ski destination for foreigners. This means more outsiders are going to their ski destinations, especially Niseko. This means people are looking for places to stay. A new development, which is known for its beautiful resorts in Canada, aims to cater to the luxury crowd.
Last month, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts announced that it will open a 165-room hotel in Niseko. While not slopeside, this property will be located near the Niseko Village and Hirafu ski resorts. During the summer, it will also offer convenient access to nearby golf courses, local attractions, plus hiking and biking trails.
For now, the details about the property remain sparse. Some of the amenities referenced include two sit-down restaurants, a spa, wellness areas, a kids’ club, and onsen spaces.
Fairmont is a luxury hotel brand that’s owned by the Accor Group. Some of their most famous properties include the Fairmont Banff Springs, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, and Fairmont Le Château Frontenac (that big ass building in Quebec City). This will be the second Fairmont hotel in the country. Last year, Fairmont premiered its first hotel in Tokyo.
The goal is to open the property in early 2028. If this holds up, it means an opening during the 2027-28 ski season.
