Joplin, Missouri — Missouri isn’t known for its mountain biking, or mountains in general. With its highest peak being 1,772 feet (Taum Sauk Mountain), you’d think that mountain bikers wouldn’t have many places to explore. However, that’s not the case.
The city of Joplin is known for one unfortunate thing. In May of 2011, an EF-5 Tornado landed in the city, devastating the community. It’s taken many years to recover from, but a new bike park is becoming a major driver of tourism.
Opened last November, the 95-acre MOmentum is the state’s largest bike park. More than 10 miles of trails give bikers of any ability level the chance to enjoy the majestic scenery and improve their skills along the way.
In late April, the American Ramp Company broke down their work in creating this extensive trail network.
