Squirt Boating
Squirt Boating

Fascinating dive into the extreme sports craze of the 90s, when squirt boating was the cutting edge of whitewater kayaking. Squirt boats are designed to be as low in volume as possible while still allowing the paddler to float and used both above and below the surface of the water aka underwater kayaking. The sports popularity may have dwindled but there’s still a few diehards out there. This is the story of squirt boating:

“I don’t even know if the sport makes sense. You’re getting in the most uncomfortable boat possible that doesn’t even float and the goal is to stay under the water as long as you can and you don’t even use a paddle.”

If you’re wondering what Squirt Boating looked like in its heyday, check out this rad footage from the Salaach River in Austria from way back in 1989. So cool!
