After what’s been a dry and warm winter season across much of the western United States, California is officially down to just two open ski resorts. Kirkwood Mountain Resort, the last Epic Pass resort open in the state, celebrated its closing day on Sunday, April 19th. That said, the two remaining open resorts aren’t planning to close anytime soon.
Palisades Tahoe – Closing date TBD
Palisades Tahoe released a pretty grim update back in March, stating that they’ll likely close in late April rather the typical mid-to-late May. We’re pretty darn close to late April (the month ends in a little over a week) and the resort is still keeping things going, with no closing date yet announced. 11 lifts are still spinning, and 36 trails are open to skiers and snowboarders. There’s absolutely no guarantee the resort will stay open for much longer, but it’s seeming more and more possible that they’ll at least keep going into early may.
Mammoth Mountain – Open until at least Memorial Day Weekend
Mammoth Mountain’s Second Season tends to make the California resort the “King of Spring”, keeping them open later than most resorts in the country. This year they plan to keep skiing and snowboarding at least until Memorial Day Weekend, with plenty of weekend events and activities set to be announced. Mammoth currently has 10 of 25 chairlifts spinning and providing access to 103 of 180 trails. Definitely not bad for late April.
