Clear Creek County in Colorado is warning visitors to keep parking restrictions in mind as they plan for springtime hiking, biking and climbing. This time of year more people begin to head into the mountains for outdoor activity and Clear Creek County tends to see an influx of recreators, many of which tend to park less than legally.

Anyone visiting Clear Creek County, including Clear Creek Canyon Park, is reminded that they may receive a parking ticket if they park in a no parking area, face the wrong way (park facing east on the westbound side of the road, for example), or have any portion of their parked vehicle in or on the roadway (this can even include your side mirror hanging slightly over the road).

Just in the last couple of weekends, Clear Creek County has seen several incidents of illegal parking. As a result, the Colorado Department of Transportation is installing additional No Parking signs along Hwy 6 in this area with the goal of protecting hikers, bikers, and climbers from potential accidents with motorists.

The two images above show exactly what the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office is warning against. The car on the left is parked in a clearly marked no parking zone, leading to a ticket, which the car on the right is parked facing in the wrong direction, again leading to a ticket. Make sure you follow parking rules this spring and summer so you don’t finish your hike, bike, or climb with a rather disappointing letter on your windshield.
