8+ feet of snow in 72 hours @ Palisades Tahoe, California

Palisades Tahoe just reported their snow totals for the past 72 hours and it is truly monumental:

“Nearly 8 feet of snow in just 72 hours. Thank you to all of our mountain operations teams who show up in the dark, in the wind, and in the freezing cold to rebuild the mountain. It takes round-the-clock effort, grit, and a whole lot of heart.” -Palisades Tahoe

The incredible influx of snow has made operating the iconic resort extremely difficult. Today all lifts at Palisades were closed for the day, with the exception of First Venture and Ahsoka carpet while Alpine remained open (Roundhouse down only):

Yesterday was truly epic at Palisades Tahoe where smiling guests were met with 6 feet of freshies thanks to the hard work of the Ski Patrol and Mountain Operations teams who managed to open the lower mountain:

“There are plenty of waist deep turns to be had out there on KT-22, Red Dog, Resort Chair, and Roundhouse.” -Palisades Tahoe

We echo Palisades Tahoe’s reminder that deep snow also means dangerous snow, so please remember deep snow safety:

“Ride with a partner. Avoid the base of trees when skiing & riding in deep snow. If you are going to fall, attempt to do so feet first. The more snow, the higher the risk. Be safe and have fun!” -Palisades Tahoe

No operational plan for Palisades tomorrow so make sure to check for updates here before making any plans. Also, heads up if you are thinking of heading to Palisades Tahoe on 1-80 as it is currently closed from Colfax to Nevada state-line with no estimated time to reopen. Caltrans is candid about their inability to beat mother nature and openly accept “The mountain is winning”:

“I-80 is currently CLOSED from Applegate to the Stateline due to zero visibility and whiteout conditions. Let’s just say this, today is not the day to head up the hill. The mountain is winning.” -Caltrans

Yesterday a snow-covered I-80 in California turned into a virtual parking lot near Emigrant Gap, where dozens of trucks were stuck in standstill traffic with vehicles backed up for more than six miles after heavy snow forced a shutdown of the eastbound lanes.
