32-year-old Canadian snowboarder Mark McMorris was taken off course on a stretcher Wednesday night after a brutal crash at the 2026 Winter Olympics Big Air Training in Livigno, Italy.
According to a statement from the Canadian Snowboard Team, McMorris’s crash came after landing the run. He was assisted off the slope and taken to a hospital with both Canada Snowboard and Canadian Olympic Committee medical staff for evaluation.
McMorris shared an update to his social media Thursday afternoon explaining that he did hit his head in the crash and will not be competing in the snowboard Big Air qualifications scheduled for tonight at 7:30pm CET, and thus will not be competing in the Big Air overall.
The good news is that while he’s out for the Big Air, McMorris said that things are looking up for Slopestyle, an event that he’s previously won three Olympic bronze medals in. The men’s Snowboard Slopestyle Qualifications aren’t set to begin until Monday, February 16th, so he’ll have plenty of time to work on getting healthy.
We’re all glad to see McMorris is doing well after such a nasty crash and give him lots of credit for keeping at it during these Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
