Fascinating case study out from one of Austria’s largest and most iconic ski resorts where they are using cutting edge drone technology to streamline their snowmaking operations. Planai Ski Resort is working with KIONIQ (Drone as a Service) and Spektakulair to utilize the DJI Dock 3 to monitor technical snowmaking.
“By gaining a completely new perspective on snow production from drones, the team can optimize efficiency, reduce costs, and avoid unnecessary water and energy waste. This innovative application shows how automated drone operations can support smarter, safer, and more sustainable ski resort management—and it’s set to inspire others across the industry.” -DJI
“At any time of day when the drone flies, we always have an overview of the snowmaking process. Afterwards, we can also access all the data and values and continuously improve.” -Hannes Resch, Planai-Hochwurzenbahnen
While drones have become commonplace in many ways with millions of units flying recreationally around the world, their industrial and commercial use is still very much in its infancy and it cool to see how they can improve operations at ski resorts.
