Dan Carney is 60 years old. Heโs been skating for 10 years. And he competed at the Olympic Trials.
Hats off to 60-year-old Wisconsin resident, Dan Carney, who threw his hat in the ring with athletes 4 decades younger than him competing at his first U.S. Olympic Speed Skating Trials race.
Dan faced off with 18-year-old Gavin Ord on January 4th at the Pettit National Ice Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the pair battled it out over the 500 meter track. Dan crossed the finish line at 31.2 mph and lost the race to the man 42 years his junior by just .14 seconds. Dan may not be heading to Italy to represent Team USA at the Winter Olympics but he holds the 60-and-over world record in the 500 meters and is now the oldest skater ever to compete at Trials.
