Connecticut — It’s time to cue Brass Bonanza, because Connecticut’s ski industry is rolling to start the 2025-26 season.
Last week, Mount Southington and Ski Sundown officially crossed the 100% open threshold. According to New England Ski Update, they joined Jay Peak as the only ski resorts in the region that have been able to get 100% open. This is thanks to both ski resorts having 100% snowmaking coverage. With both ski areas expecting snow today, it’s going to be a great week there. Here’s a recap of the two ski resorts’ seasons so far.
Mount Southington
Mount Southington opened for the season on December 13th. Cold weather allowed Southington to produce a lot of snow. According to NBC Connecticut, they added 10 new fan guns to their vast snowmaking network last offseason. Currently, they have all fourteen trails open, and seven lifts are spinning.
Mount Southington features 14 trails, 8 lifts, and a vertical drop of 425 feet. In the summertime, the ski area hosts summer camps, cornhole leagues, and volleyball courts.

Ski Sundown
Ski Sundown started its 2025-26 campaign on December 12th. It reached 100% open last week before the rain came through. Currently, Ski Sundown has all 17 trails open, with 5 lifts operating. The steepest trail there is Satan’s Stairway, which sounds a bit dramatic. However, that would be a good trail sign for the ski cabin. They must sell out of those in the retail shop like hotcakes.
Ski Sundown features 17 trails, 5 lifts, and a vertical drop of 625 feet. The longest piste is Tom’s Trail, which is one mile long. Both Sundown and Southington have night skiing with 100% coverage. Last year, Sundown debuted Exhibition Quad, a new fixed-grip quad chairlift.
