After pushing back their projected November 15th opening day, Mammoth Mountain promised they would be constantly assessing conditions and vowed to start spinning lifts as soon as possible.
They asked for patience, we took a deep breath and now we have some amazing news for all you California skiers and snowboarders. 17 hours ago Mammoth made the much anticipated announcement they will be open for skiing and riding this Thursday, November 20th:
“Thanks to the teamwork of Mother Nature and our snowmaking crews, these colder temps have enabled us to make substantial progress on our base. Stay tuned for a full operational plan over the next couple of days.”
Mammoth is in full swing getting the slopes prepped for opening day and as of yesterday afternoon they had their snowguns firing while Mother Nature pitched in with some snow natural snow to boot. Mammoth has received 7-16″ of natural snowfall since Sunday and more is in the forecast.
“Thanks to the teamwork of Mother Nature and our snowmaking crews, these colder temps have enabled us to make substantial progress on our base.”

Cheers to Mammoth as they celebrate the kick off to their 72nd season and fire up the lifts. If you head out to Mammoth Thursday look out for their mascot Woolly who will be on hand for their annual first chair and banner breakthrough tradition which will be followed by a toast to the new season. Festivities will be held at the bottom of Broadway Express. Lets GO!
