Amazing news out of North Carolina where the state’s largest snow-sports resort is kicking off their ski season today. Sugar Mountain Resort is opening today for 2025-2026 winter season which might seem early for a Southern resort but its not as highly unusual as you might think with other early openings occurring on November 11th, 2018, and November 9th, 2019 (Sugar Mountain Resort opened on Halloween in 2012).
Frigid temps descended on Avery County Sunday evening dropping 3 inches of snow and allowed Sugar Mountain to fire up their substantial snowmaking system. Snowmaking went into 24 hour overdrive and Sugar Mountain expects between 8 and 24 inches of manmade and natural snow to cover five of its trails which are set to open at 9:00am.
They will be spinning their Summit Express Chairlift and firing up the magic carpet for skiers and snowboarders to ride three blues trails and two greens. The lifts will be running until 4:30pm, night skiing is expected to start in coming weeks. Cheers to Sugar Mountain, LETS GO!
