Winter weather and temperature cool downs could be inbound.

It’s been an interesting October, with some areas of the country staying warm and dry throughout the month. Fortunately Direct Weather‘s recent forecast is tracking multiple significant Arctic outbreaks that could sweep across the United States, bringing potential snowfall and ending October’s warmth.

Models Show 5 Major Arctic Blasts Upcoming... I've Never Seen Anything Like This

Halloween Arctic Blast Starts Cold Pattern

The first major Arctic blast is set to arrive just in time for Halloween, October 31st, bringing a cool down across the eastern United States. A powerful coastal storm could develop between Maine and Canada with pressures dropping to 979 millibars. Just a few days into November, an even more intense Arctic blast sweeps through, bringing highly below-normal temperatures to the central and eastern states.

The extended forecast shows multiple potential snowfall events across the country. The Northwest will see typical October snow, but the Upper Midwest, Smoky Mountains, Appalachian Mountain Range, and other mountainous areas in the Northeast could see some impressive November snowfall.

Much-Needed Rainfall Before the Cold

A beneficial storm system looks like it could bring much-needed rainfall to the Mid-Atlantic, Ohio Valley, and Northeast before the arctic air swings through. A 993 millibar low pressure system will tap into moisture and deliver significant precipitation to drought-stricken areas.

Five Arctic Blasts Through Mid-November

The GFS model shows a pattern featuring not just two or three Arctic blasts, but potentially five separate cold fronts rolling through by mid-November. Each successive outbreak brings temperatures further below normal as the Arctic sends more cold air straight down into the central and eastern states.
