Donny's Almanac.
Donny's Almanac.

With the weather starting to turn cool and ski resorts across North America coming closer and closer to their opening day, everyone’s eyes have turned toward the winter ahead. Sometimes that means turning towards cold hard science, sometimes that means turning toward a bit of superstition, like the Old Farmer’s Almanac. Maine’s finest athlete and defintely-not-a-meteorologist Donny Pelletier provided his own version of the almanac, Donny’s Almanac, and it’s certainly something.

Donny's Almanac 2025

Donny mostly just explained how snow storms work, rather than exploring what the winter ahead will look like. But he does give his forecast right at the end, and he says it’s going to be a “wicked good wintah.”

Long term forecasts are usually a bit shaky. Forecasting anything months ahead of time with any accuracy is near impossible, but we can get an idea of the climate trends heading into the coming months. We know, for example, that we’re currently in a La Niรฑa and that the pattern will likely continue into early winter. In terms of exactly how much snow we’re actually going to see, well, Donny probably knows just about as much as anyone else.
