Ski jumping is a wild sight on its own. Rapid fire ski jumping, with skiers quickly going one after another, is quite the upgrade. You should be able to imagine how poorly this could go if someone were to crash on the landing, so it’s a good thing everyone involved knows what they’re doing.
The video was shared by nordic combined athlete Annika Malacinski. Based out of Steamboat, Colorado, she first qualified for the U.S. National Team in 2018. During 2021/22 season, she competed in the inaugural women’s Nordic Combined World Cup and World Championships. In 2023, she won gold at the U.S. National Championship. She’s consistently fighting for equality in her sport, hoping to bring Women’s Nordic Combined into the Olympics.
Nordic combined, in which athletes compete in both nordic skiing and ski jumping, has been in the Olympics since the first Winter Games in Chamonix in 1924. It began with a men’s individual event on the normal hill before team competitions were added for Calgary 1988. In the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, the large hill event was ended. Despite its long history in the Olympics, nordic combined remains the only Winter Olympic sport closed off to women.
