Slope to Hope, reducing waste and fostering hope

Just found out about this lovely charitable organization out of Breckenridge, Colorado that prevents thousands of pounds of winter clothes left behind or lost by guests at ski resorts and hotels from ending up in landfills while providing people in Colorado who are experiencing homelessness with proper winter clothing. Slopes to Hope is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizationย that collects and redistributes lost items to nonprofit organizations in Summit County and homeless shelters and community organizations in the Denver Metro Area.

“We go to hotels and resorts in the area and collect all the clothing items that their guests either lose or leave behind and distribute them to homeless shelters.” –Slopes to Hope

The concept is simple and we absolutely love it. If you are interested in learning more, donating, or volunteering, please visit slopestohope.com.

Slopes to Hope is a nonprofit organization that goes to hotels and resorts in the Breckenridge area and collects all the clothing items that their guests either lose or leave behind and distributes them to homeless shelters.

Why?

Tens of thousands of pounds of winter clothes are left behind or lost by guests at ski resorts and hotels every year in Colorado. Most of these clothes end up in our landfills.
There are also tens of thousands of people in Colorado who are experiencing homelessness, or cannot afford proper winter clothing. We address theseย two problemsย withย one solution

How?

We go to the hotels and resorts in Summit County and collect these winter clothes, and then distribute them to homeless shelters, churches, and community organizations. This keeps thousands of pounds of clothes out of the landfill and gets them to the people who need them the most.

How is it funded?

We are seeking funding from grants, sponsorships, and individual donors.
We are also exploring different fundraising events, such as an auction for new ski equipment and apparel, or nights at participating resorts. Individuals and businesses may also pledge a penny per pound of clothing we collect and distribute.

How can you help?

Beyond donations, we seek help with community outreach and connecting with hotel and resort managers! We are also seekingย volunteersย to help us collect clothes from hotels and resorts and deliver them to shelters and nonprofit organizations throughout Colorado.
