Ririe, Idaho โ€” While it may not be the top ski resort you think of when it comes to Idaho skiing, Kelly Canyon has been making notable improvements in recent years, with more projects on tap for this winter.

Over the past few months, Kelly Canyon Resort has continued to make various improvements on the mountain. Ski patrollers at Kelly Canyon have been spending the offseason clearing brush in the wooded areas, resulting in the creation of new runs. This will allow more skiing and riding in areas that weren’t previously skiable.

For terrain park aficionados, they’ll be stoked to hear that Kelly Canyon is adding a rope tow to the park. This will make the terrain park easier to access. However, the key benefit of this move is that they’ll no longer receive comments on their social media pages from people begging for a rope tow in the park. Ask Big Sky about that conundrum.

Kelly Canyon also made a notable addition to its food and beverage operations. This summer, Big Jud’s opened up at the base lodge. Known as one of Idaho’s most famous restaurant chains, they’re known for the Big Jud, a one-pound burger with super-sized toppings.

About Kelly Canyon

Situated thirty minutes away from Idaho Falls, Kelly Canyon describes itself as “the biggest little ski hill in the USA.” Before the additions for this upcoming winter, the ski resort featured 51 trails, 5 lifts, and 688 acres of skiable terrain. Prior to the rope tow, the most recent lift addition was the Gold Rush chairlift. This SkyTrac triple chairlift was installed in 2021. Interestingly, the summit of Kelly Canyon offers trails suitable for Nordic skiers and snowshoers. For those making a trip to the Tetons, it’s a close option for those planning to visit Grand Targhee.
