Enjoy this wholesome slice of midwest ski history in the form of a documentary shot at Cable, Wisconsin’s Telemark Skiing Resort in the year 1960. Founded by Tony Wise in 1947, Telemark was once a thriving destination for skiers in the Northwoods of Wisconsin with winter activities like horse drawn sleigh rides, apres swimming in their state of the art indoor pool and raucous polka dancing at night.
Interestingly, Telemark had it’s very own 3,600 foot airstrip at the base of the mountain where “air-minded skiers” could land their planes and enjoy a day on the slopes. Sadly the last time Telemark operated as a downhill skiing operation was in 2010 but is now home the American Birkebeiner, North America’s largest cross-country ski event.
