There are all different ways to enjoy a day on the water in a kayak from skooching along on a rotomolded sit on top or covering long distances on a sleek seaworthy vessel but perhaps the most exciting is whitewater freestyle and there is no better zone than the Mistassibi River in central Quebec, Canada.
The Mistassibi runs 185 miles but those kayakers looking to ride waves and catch air have zeroed in a zone called Molly’s Wave to launch themselves and pull spins and flips reminiscent of skateboarding. Here is kayaking ace Jeremy Nash showing what he can do on the Mistassibi:
“It was such an experience chasing waves on the Mistassibi. Can’t wait to return to this skatepark of a river. There are truly no better waves for catching air and throwing tricks.”
“The Mistassibi is one of the most magical playgrounds I’ve ever seen. Certainly the biggest and best waves regular to kayaking. Looking forward to figuring out big wave freestyle a bit more. I learned a lot this trip but definitely have some fine tuning to work on. I’m definitely a lot more used to creek boats and slicy boats then the little pill jawns. Huge thanks to Leif and Natalie for the motivation to drive an ungodly distance to look at some waves. Also for snagging all of these epic shots of me doing my favorite thing. That was sweet! Stoked for more at some point. Especially the kickflips… Cheers!” -Jeremy Nash
