Mammoth Mountain, California — Even though parking at a ski resort doesn’t feel like it, you’re still technically in the wilderness. That was demonstrated by a recent series of bear attacks that have impacted various vehicles at Mammoth Mountain.
This week, Mammoth shared photos of recent encounters between cars and hungry bears in Mammoth’s parking lots. The pictures, shared to Mammoth by Sam Nicolosi, show various cars, trucks, and trailers being broken into by bears. These broken into vehicles all have something in common: they had food and/or drinks inside of them. Bears have impressive scent capabilities, with it being estimated that bears have 2,100 times stronger smelling capabilities than humans.
Because of this, Mammoth is recommending various practices, including having no food in your car. If you do decide to keep some grub in your vehicle, please grab a secure container that is available at the B parking lot sign.
