WEST YELLOWSTONE, Montana – A plane crash near West Yellowstone, Montana, led to the death of three individuals on July 18th. West Yellowstone Dispatch received a call regarding a possible airplane crash at 1:41pm after the U.S. Department of Transportation Aero Division reported that an aircraft had departed the West Yellowstone Airport just before midnight on July 17th and could not be located.

With the help of an occupants’ last location provided by a smart watch, two search planes were sent over the area and at 2:13pm the plane was confirmed to have been crashed in dense timber just south of West Yellowstone near South Plateau Road. Gallatin County Sheriff Search and Rescue deployed personnel to respond to the crash with teams including the West Yellowstone Section, Big Sky Section, Heli Team, and Comms team responding.

When the Search and Rescue members located the down airplane it was confirmed that all three occupants were deceased. The victims were extricated from the crashed plane and transported by helicopter before being turned over to a Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office deputy coroner.

The victims have been identified as 60-year-old Rodney Conover and 23-year-old Madison Conover of Tennessee and 55-year-old Kurt Enoch Robey of Utah. The crash is currently being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
