Ashland, Oregon โ I feel bad for Oregon’s ski industry. There’s the liability waiver issue, which is still unresolved, leading to rising insurance costs. Then there’s the unpleasant weather they’ve dealt with.
After warm weather prevented them from opening, Mt. Ashland Ski Area finally opened for the season on December 29th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t long until their next closure.
Yesterday, Mt. Ashland announced it is pausing operations indefinitely. It won’t be open on January 1st, and a reopening date has yet to be established. From photos shared by the ski area, it’s clear that the snowpack around the base was low.
The leader of Mt. Ashland, Andrew Gast, explained that warm temperatures, rain, and declining snow are leading to this temporary closure. A reopening date is uncertain, but there is some hope for some snow over the weekend.
Let’s hope the snow comes soon for Mt. Ashland and Oregon in general.
