Man catches falling climber with one arm.
Man catches falling climber with one arm.

Most climbing gyms have pretty strict rules against climbing without a rope. At my local gym for example, you can climb without a rope up to the first lead clip and no further. Going beyond that limit is dangerous and will likely get you kicked out of the gym. The rules tend to vary by gym and by country, but generally free soloing in a gym is either not allowed or strongly discouraged.

Somehow this climber managed to make his way up the wall without clipping into a rope, getting pretty high before anyone tried to stop him. The climb he’s on features an auto-belay meaning he could have clipped in and climbed without a partner below, but for whatever reason he decided to go up unattached.

According to the Bastille Post the video was captured at a climbing gym in Guangzhou, China. The man had forgotten to clip in at the start of the climb and the guy who catches him is apparently a climbing instructor or a gym staff member. It appears the instructor climbed up with the intent of helping the man and happened to be in the right place at the right time when the climber fell to the ground.
