Tragic news out of El Paso County in Colorado where the body of 55-year-old Russel Hardy from New Hampshire was located near the summit of Pikes Peak.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, Hardy had traveled from New Hampshire to Colorado Springs in order to hike and explore Pike Peak. He arrived on June 10, 2025, and rented a gray 2025 Toyota RAV4. He was scheduled to return home by June 12. After he failed to return and could not be reached, his family reported him missing on June 13.

Search and Rescue teams and law enforcement from both counties searched with surrounding wilderness with K-9 teams and drones.
At around noon on Monday, June 16, a hiker discovered and reported the body of a deceased individual matching Hardy’s description. It was located near the summit of Pikes Peak in El Paso County. There is no indication of foul play.
“Our deepest condolences are with Mr. Hardy’s family during this difficult time. Although this is not the outcome anyone hoped for, the dedication shown by everyone involved remains deeply appreciated. Over 100 volunteers from agencies across the Pikes Peak region assisted in the search, braving varying weather conditions and challenging terrain in the mission.” – El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal.
The individual’s identity and cause of death will be confirmed by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office. Any further information will be released as necessary.
