Nova Scotia — A ski resort operator that’s familiar with Nova Scotia is taking over another mountain in the province.
The CBC reports that the owners of Cape Smokey have reached an agreement to acquire Ski Martock, which is located in the same province. Cape Smokey Holding Ltd. is aiming to finalize the deal by the end of this month. The reason for the sale is that the current owners, Jim and Heather Boylan, are planning to retire.

In terms of changes to Martock before the 2025-26 season, Martin Kejval, who’s the CEO of Cape Smokey Holding Ltd., told the CBC that no major alterations will happen:
“Martock is celebrating 60 years this winter. Nothing will happen this first year. I’m a big believer in observing how things operate and work … before making any significant changes.”
Due to its proximity to Halifax, Kejval believes it can become a four-season destination. This means that more summer attractions may be added. Another consideration is creating a season pass that would give access to both Cape Smokey and Martock. In my opinion, a nice change would be a redesign of the website, which is dated.
Less than an hour’s drive away from Halifax, Ski Martock is a popular ski area for families. The ski area features seven trails, four lifts, night skiing, and a vertical drop of 600 feet. Its base lodge is home to a ski retail shop, rentals, a snow school, a ticket office, a food outlet, a bar, and bathrooms.
