Early morning on Saturday, June 14, at around 12:30am, the National Park Service Vessel Peregrine ran aground in Michigan’s Isle Royale National Park.

The 25-foot boat hit the break wall at the north end of the Keweenaw Upper Entrance in Hancock, Michigan, while NPS staff were actively transporting a visitor suffering a medical emergency to the mainland for further medical care.

The U.S. Coast Guard responded with a 45-foot response boat from Station Portage, rescuing all aboard the Peregrine.

The NPS vessel was then towed to Houghton Saturday afternoon. There was no fuel or oil discharge during the crash.
