The Maui Wildfires that took place in 2023 destroyed more than 2,200 structures, caused about $5.5 billion in damages, and took more than 100 lives.
The fire devastated the community, derailing lives and plans including those aiming to build West Maui’s first public bike park. Since the fire, a team of motivated athletes, cyclists, and pedestrians alike have come together to shape a lasting resource through West Maui’s Bike Park.
“This is the story of how a community — cyclists and pedestrians alike — came together to shape a lasting resource for joy, friendship, progression, and loyalty. What started as a “nice-to-have” quickly became something essential: a place for birthday parties, good days, hard days, and everything in between.“
