It’s probably safe to say that ski season is over in North America. Yes there are ski areas that are still open, but most people have traded their skis for bikes, boats, or some other form of summer activity. And if the ski season isn’t over now, it almost certainly will be after next weekend. Just 4 outdoor ski areas are currently open with lift accessed skiing and snowboarding in the United States, and 2 of them close after June 15th.
Arapahoe Basin, Colorado – Closing date June 15th.
Lake Reveal is officially out at Colorado’s last open ski resort, making for what will almost certainly be an epic party of a closing weekend. Arapahoe Basin is currently closed during the week but will reopen for one final weekend on June 13th-15th, with the lifts spinning from 8:30am to 2:00pm. There is no beginner terrain available on the mountain at this time.
Mammoth Mountain, California – Closing date June 15th.
The weather is stunning at California’s Mammoth Mountain with the sun out in full force, but the skiing and snowboarding is still going. Closing day is set for June 15th, with slushy turns and fun times filling the mountain. Lift operations currently include Broadway Express (1), Face Lift Express (3), and Chair 23. Plus both mountain biking and golf are currently open, so don’t miss your last weekend to try for the Mammoth Trifecta.
Beartooth Basin, Wyoming – Closing date July 6th.
Wyoming’s summer-only ski area is open for business with operations running from 9am to 3pm daily. Locate along Beartooth Highway, this mountain offers 600 acres of summer skiing and snowboarding with pitches varying from 15 to 50 degrees. Ticket sales are heavily limited, though tickets cost just $50 per day. Depending on weather and conditions, Beartooth Basin hopes to keep the party going until July 6th.
Timberline Lodge, Oregon – Open into the summer.
Unless something wild happens, Timberline Lodge will be the last open outdoor ski area in the United States. The skiing and snowboarding continues deep into the summer on the Palmer Snowfield with both private and public lanes available throughout the hotter months. There isn’t a set closing date yet, but it’s possible the mountain will stay open through August.
