Two hikers rescued in Placer County.

On Friday evening (May 16th) the Placer County Sheriff’s Office dispatch received a GPS distress text from two hikers in the Mumford Bar area of California. Two hikers had reportedly run out of food and lost the trail.

Dispatch exchanged several messages with the pair and advised them to shelter in place overnight. Fortunately the GPS coordinates appeared accurate giving rescuers plenty of confidence in their location.

A search and rescue team hit the trail on foot at first light and were able to locate the hikers. They were cold and tired, but both were in good condition. Helicopter Falcon 30 was able to hoist and fly the hikers back to the command post.
