Crystal Mountain in Washington recently announced that they’ve raised $116,000 for the Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC) through the auctioning of the Rainier Express chairs.
All funds raised will go towards both future avalanche forecasting and education in the Pacific Northwest. NWAC provides daily avalanche and mountain weather forecasts across Washington and Oregon.
The Rainier Express chairlift, commonly called “REX”, is set to be replaced by a new Leitner-Poma detachable high-speed quad chairlift scheduled to open in December 2025. Rainier Express ran for the final time earlier this month.
While Crystal Mountain is currently closed on weekdays, the ski area will be open for one final weekend this upcoming holiday weekend with closing day scheduled for Monday, May 26.
