Washington’s Crystal Mountain will celebrate the final weekend of the Rainier Express, known to locals as REX, this upcoming weekend, with the chair remaining open until Sunday, May 4.

The chair is set to be replaced by a new Leitner-Poma detachable high-speed quad chairlift, scheduled to open in December 2025. The Last Riders of Rex 1988 celebration will say goodbye to the lift this weekend.

An auction beginning on Friday, May 4, will give fans of the chairlift the opportunity to purchase on of its 50 chairs, with bidding running through May 16th. Plus between May 2 and 4, anyone who rides the lift will be entered into an auction to win a REX chair. Every day you ride and scan your pass is another chance for you to win.

The winner for the chair raffle will be determined on Monday, May 5, and will be contacted by email. All proceeds from chairs purchased will go to the Northwest Avalanche Center.

After Sunday, May 4, Crystal Mountain will be closed on weekdays, but they’re set to stay open on weekends through Memorial Day.
