Hikers dead after falling @ Bryce Canyon National Park

Tragic news out of Utah where two bodies have been recovered at Bryce Canyon National Park.

Garfield County Sheriff’s Office reports the man and woman fell about 380 feet from Inspiration Point sometime between Monday evening and Tuesday morning. The area is a popular destination for visitors to get a birds-eye view of the world’s largest collection of rock spires called “hoodoos” found within the Bryce Amphitheater.

The bodies were discovered by a tourist on Tuesday. The couple had apparently climbed over a protective fence installed to prevent tourists from going over the edge. Conditions during the window of the time when the accident occurred were slick and wet from snow. Bryce Canyon National Park rangers responded to the scene along with Garfield County Search & Rescue and a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter.

The victims’ identities have been not released. Our thoughts are with the victims’ family and friends.
