Born August 9th, 1963, Australian former professional surfer Barton Lynch is 61 years old but good luck keeping up with him out in the lineup in Oʻahu.
Lynch spent 15 years on the ASP tour was crowned ASP World Tour Champion 1998. He retired from competitive surfing in 1997 and since become an advocate for disabled sportspeople and is involved in a variety of charities including the Disabled Surfers Association and the Surfrider Foundation. Although he no longer competes, Lynch is still pushing himself in the ocean and redefine what it means to be a surfer in your 60s:
“Come along for a session on the island of OĘ»ahu, where I find some backhand rhythm on a beautiful right-hand reef break. This is what it’s all about — clean lines, power turns, and staying stoked no matter the age or era. As a former world champion surfer, I’ve ridden waves all over the globe, but nothing compares to the magic of Hawaii. Whether it’s backhand surfing, wave reading or just soaking in the ocean energy, this one’s for the lovers of pure surfing.”
