Backyard ski setup.
Backyard ski setup.

If you’re looking to be the coolest guy or gal in town this summer, have the perfect place to keep the party going throughout the warm months, and know that all your friends are going to want to hang out at your place, you should build a backyard summer ski setup. I’m not talking a full blown ski hill. You just need a ramp, some turf, and a rail, and you can keep your skills sharp and your friends entertained all summer long.

John Davison provided a brief tutorial for building one of these backyard setups, mostly including tips and tricks to get you started. You’ll need to figure out whether you’re building it on a hill or building a full ramp to get going, but Davison’s tips will get the project off the ground.

The “snow” he uses is mSnow, available for purchase here. If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative, turf can do the trick, but it will require water and potentially soap to get you moving. This could be a pretty awesome weekend project with some good buddies or a great project with the kiddos. Whatever the case, if built right it can be of use all summer long.
