Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah — Skiing across a pond is one thing, but doing it in style takes it to another level.

On Saturday, Solitude Mountain Resort hosted their pond skim. The best run of the day went to Matt Gagnon, who used the jump next to the pond to do a backflip. During pond skims, some participants try to do a flip or other tricks, but it typically results in them crashing into the pond. The ability to not only land the backflip, but also carry on the momentum to get across the pond, and then get a 180 in at the end, makes this the best pond skim I’ve seen this spring.

Solitude remains open for the 2024-25 season, and the ski resort isn’t closing its lifts anytime soon. Although its closing date is scheduled for May 11th, Solitude is trying to stay open as late as possible. They’ve earned the title “Longest Season in Utah” for a reason.
