Beginning 8am on Friday, April 18, select roads and entrances in Yellowstone National Park will reopen to regular vehicle travel for the 2025 season.

Driving in Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park closes most roads to regular vehicle travel between early November and late-April. The road from the the North Entrance at Gardiner, Montana, through the park to Cooke City, Montana via Tower Junction is the only road that remains open to regular vehicles all year.

On April 18, the roads from the West Entrance to Madison, Madison to Old Faithful, Madison to Norris, Mammoth Hot Springs to Norris, and Norris to Canyon Village will open to regular vehicles. Those roads will close again for the winter on October 31.

The roads from the East Entrance to Lake Village (Sylvan Pass) and Canyon Village to Lake Village will remain closed until May 2, while the roads from the South Entrance to West Thumb, West Thumb to Old Faithful (Craig Pass), West Thumb to Lake Village, and Tower-Roosevelt to Tower Fall will remain closed until May 9.

On May 23, the road from Canyon Village to Tower Fall (Dunraven Pass) will reopen. The opening and closing dates for all of these roads are subject to change based on weather conditions.
