With spring weather taking hold, ski resorts are beginning to celebrate the end of their season with one of the greatest traditions in the sport. Skiers and snowboarders alike will hurl themselves across a temporary pond in the hopes of making it across without touching the frigid water, all while attempting to entertain the crowd as much as they possible can.
Many ski resorts have their own pond skim, some set up as a race, some set up as a sort of freestyle competition, some completely unofficial. But the rules are generally the same across the country. Ski or snowboard across a pond. Do it fast and with style and you might win. Entertain, throw a trick, or just wipeout hard. It’s all part of the fun.
To celebrate the spring weather, Alaska’s Hilltop Ski Area hosted their own pond skim with a mandatory jump into the water. There were plenty of wild costumes and killer runs, but the highlight is almost certainly this guy’s unbelievable front flip that he manages to land and ski out of.
Front flips alone are darn difficult on skis. Landing a front flip in a chilly pond of water and successfully skiing out of it, all while wearing a costume that looks like it came out of an 80s figure skating competition is a whole different beast. Impressive stuff Enzo, impressive stuff.
