Congratulations to Chloe Kim who won her third snowboard halfpipe world championship over the weekend in St. Moritz, Switzerland and secured her spot on her third Olympic team.
The two-time reigning Olympic gold medalist halfpipe snowboarder beat out Japan’s Sara Shimizu and Mitsuki Ono with a winning run which included a pair of 900s and a switch double cork 1080. With her victory in hand after her first run, Chloe attempted a switch frontside 1260 stalefish in her second run, which has never been attempted in women’s competition, but didn’t quite land it.
With her win St. Moritz, Chloe is the top American woman in the world rankings and and guaranteed to join team USA for the Milan Cortina Games. If Chloe wins gold in Italy, she will become the first snowboarder to win three consecutive Olympic halfpipe gold medals.
