Colorado’s Monarch Mountain is bringing back a classic ski competition with the very first Ski Ballet on Freeway! The ski ballet competition kicks off on April 5th at 11:00 AM on the Freeway trail, asking competitors to dance, spin, and glide down the slope to the music of their choice.
Solo acts and teams of 2-3 people are welcome to compete, with costumes and choreography both encouraged. The competition will be judged based on style, technical execution, and flair, with the mountain welcoming reigning U.S. National Champion in ballet skiing (Acro) Lara Rosenbaum as a judge and exhibitioner.
Competitors are asked to submit a 2-3 minute long music track for their performance, with no specific guidelines on what type of music to use. An on-sight DJ will also be around to pick a track if competitors didn’t come prepared with one.
Monarch Mountain has been offering ski ballet clinics over the past few months, with the last clinic set to go down on March 30. Those who participate in a clinic will have the registration fees for the competition waived.
Prizes are set to inlude Monarch Season Passes and Swag from Oveja Negra Bike Packing and Ortovox. Registration costs $35 for solo acts and $45 for team acts. All proceeds are set to support the Monarch Mountain Community Outreach Fund & KHEN Community Radio.
