Crystal Mountain Resort extends ski season through Memorial Day

Thanks to over 5 feet of snow in the month of March, Crystal Mountain Resort in Washington State has extended their ski season through Memorial Day. Crystal will be open daily through April 20th and operate on weekends through May 26th.

There a ton of upcoming spring events if you are looking for a good excuse to head on out to Crystal including Teacher Appreciation Day on March 29th were all teachers to enjoy 50% off lift tickets, the return of the Bikini Downhill on April 12th to raise funds for the Crystal Mountain Fire Department and their annual Pond Skim on April 19th which will sure to be a blast.

Not long ago, on this very mountain, a wild race took over the slopes. This April, Elysian Brewing proudly presents…the Return of the Bikini Downhill! The galaxy’s most outrageous springtime tradition is back. Across the snowy expanse of Crystal Mountain, brave spring skiers and riders will unite to defy the cold and embrace the sunshine in a race like no other.

Armed with board shorts, bikinis, and unstoppable spirits, these fearless participants will bring the warmth of the beach to the frozen slopes, all for the sake of silly shenanigans and raising funds for the Crystal Mountain Fire Department.

Scoring and Categories:

1. Style (10 points max) | This category assesses the racer’s overall appearance, flair, and creativity prior to and during the race. Points are awarded for:

Creativity: The level of uniqueness and fun of the swimwear and accessories.

Confidence: The energy and charisma the racer displays.

Smoothness: The rider’s level of stylishness as they navigate the course. Do they navigate the course gracefully? Do they execute any cool moves like spins or jumps?

2. Speed (10 points max) | This category measures how fast the racer completes the course.

Fastest Time – 1st Place: 10 Points will be awarded to the racer who crosses the finish line first.

2nd Place: 7 points awarded to the racer who crosses the finish line second.

3rd Place: 5 points awarded to the racer who crosses the finish line third.

4th Place: 3 points awarded to the racer who crosses the finish line fourth.

3. Volume of Liquid in Stein (10 points max) | This category rates how much liquid the racer manages to keep in their stein throughout the race. It tests their ability to maintain control and adds an entertaining challenge.

75%+ Volume: 10 Points awarded for those who complete the race with a stein in their hand that contains 75% liquid or more.

50%+ Volume: 6 Points awarded for those who complete the race with a stein in their hand that contains 50% liquid or more.

25%+ Volume: 4 Points awarded for those who complete the race with a stein in hand that contains 25% liquid or more.

Empty Steins: 2 Points awarded for those who complete the race with a stein in their hand that contains less than 25%.

Lost Stein: 0 Points awarded for those who complete the race without their Stein.

Scoring Example:

Style: 10 points (awesome outfit, super confident, crazy creative).

Speed: 7 points (good speed, but not the fastest, coming in second place)

The Volume of Liquid In Stein: 4 points (some spilled out, but 40% of the volume left)

This system creates an entertaining and diverse evaluation of each racer. It adds silliness and challenges beyond just speed. After all, the best skier/snowboarder is the one having the most fun!Whether you race or cheer from the sidelines, this legendary celebration is a tropical odyssey for everybody. All proceeds benefit the Crystal Mountain Fire Department.

Grab a cold one and catch all of the action from the base area as passionate skiers and snowboarders brave the Cascade chill of the pond skim waters and try to impress our judges with their Best Skim, Costume and Splash! Whether you’re skimming or spectating, this wild trip is for everybody.
