Mt. Baker closed for 2 days in the face of rain and wind

After incredible influx of snow 127+ inches of snowfall in the month of March, Mt. Baker’s weather took a turn for the worse yesterday in the form of an atmospheric river with rain and wind descending on the iconic Washington State ski resort.

This warm wet weather has forced a temporary 2 day closure of Mt. Baker who plans to reopen on the Wednesday March 27th. Mt. Baker has also issued a warning to all skiers and snowboarders seeking a backcountry alternative while the resort is closed as there is high avalanche danger in the area. Mt. Baker issued the following statement yesterday Sunday March 23rd:

“Mt. Baker will be temporarily closed Monday and Tuesday (March 24 & 25) and we plan to re-open Wednesday March 26. We have had the most Miracle March we could have asked for! Starting this afternoon, however, we are seeing a big turn in weather for the next few days. With forecasts calling for an atmospheric river with a significant amount of rain and wind starting tonight, Also, NWAC has issued a High Avalanche Danger Rating.
