An erratic man allegedly hit a female parking attendant with his vehicle in a Copper Mountain parking lot after apparently threatening staff and shouting racial slurs.
According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received reports of the man acting erratically in the parking lot, shouting slurs and threatening staff. The deputies then received an update that the man had hit the parking attendant while on their way to the scene.
The woman’s account stated that she approached the man after he had driven into the parking lot with his door wide open. He ran up to her, yelling at the staff member, before getting back into his vehicle in an attempt to leave the lot. He drove into a dead end and began reversing towards the female attendant.
Multiple people, including the woman, yelled at him to stop, and the staff member hit the back of his car hoping he’d stop before hitting her. The man claimed he did not see the woman before hitting her and believed the people were yelling at him for no reason. However witnesses claimed that the man appeared to be looking in his rearview mirror and knew the woman was behind him.
Based on witness statements and interviews, the man was taken into custody. The woman was evaluated by EMS and found to be unharmed, while the man was medically cleared and taken to the Summit County Detention Facility on charges of attempted vehicular assault and reckless driving.
