Once lovingly knows as “Banff of the Prairies” Manitoba’s Mt. Agassiz Ski Resort was located in Riding Mountain National Park.

The unique ski hill opened back in 1961 and served the local community for decades before closing due to a series of unfortunate circumstances in 2000. Mt. Agassiz had a fighting chance to reopening back in 2013 but Parks Canada ultimately decided to let the once beloved ski area be reclaimed into its natural surroundings. Most of the buildings were removed in 2015 and the site is gradually losing all traces of its ski history.

The following video tells the entire story of Mt. Agassiz from it’s early days to its closure.
