Skier faces jail time for snowball prank injuring grandfather

A French skier faces up to three years in jail after he was busted hitting a 61-year-old grandfather in the head with a snowball thrown from a chairlift at Alpe d’Huez Ski Resort in southern France.

The culprit filmed himself hurling the snowball at the unsuspecting bystander and posted the video to TikTok with the overlaid text “‘This has to be the craziest thing you could possibly do at a ski resort” where it has been viewed over 3 million times. The grandfather was eating lunch with his granddaughter at the time of the incident and thrower can be heard laughing and saying “bon appétit” as he launched the snowball.

The victim reportedly suffered minor injuries and had his glasses broken when the snowball hit him in the face. The TikToker claimed on his account that no one was injured and his intention was to hit the table and just scare the innocent people.

Resort officials confirmed the identity of the suspect by corroborating that his ski pass was checked just prior to the chairlift going over the lunch patio. The grandfather has filed a criminal lawsuit at the recommendation of Société d’Aménagement Touristique d’Alpe d’Huez which operates the Clos Giraud Chairlift.

The suspect has already been contacted by local police and faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison if found guilty.
