A skier reported that he lost his handgun while skiing at an undisclosed resort in Summit County, Colorado.
According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the skier deputies to report the missing gun. Another skier had apparently found the gun and taken it home to another state before calling the Sheriff’s Office and reporting the found property.
The gun was subsequently shipped to Summit County and booked into the evidence vault where it will be kept for safekeeping until it’s collected by its owner.
Several Colorado ski resorts, including multiple in Summit County, operate on National Forest land. While resorts in Summit County don’t appear to have specific rules on carrying guns on the mountain, people are allowed to carry weapons while visiting National Forests throughout the state.
