When it’s your first time skiing, one of the first things you learn is how to control your speed and how to stop. That’s part of the reason people usually start with pizza/french fry. It allows you to keep a slow speed and stop before learning more complicated techniques like parallel turns and edging skills.
Downside to the pizza technique include it’s difficulty to slow you down/stop if you’ve already picked up too much speed. This guy, for example, is clearly going to fast to slow down and stop before slamming into a ski rack and going flying.
It looks like a brutally painful fall, hopefully the guy was alright. If you’re teaching someone how to ski, a general good move would be to not stand directly in front of a ski rack and make sure there’s enough room so the person who’s learning can stop or fall before running into another object.
