There’s no clearer mark of an inexperienced skier than someone fighting to carry their skis. They can’t get the balance right, they keep dropping them, or they’ve decided to use the dreaded Texas Suitcase. If they don’t look comfortable with their skis on their shoulder, it’s pretty clear that they’re new to the sport or their a one-week-a-year type of skier.
But that doesn’t mean we should just let the beginners struggle with their skis! Teaching the best way is a great way to make more people comfortable with the sport. Fortunately professional European ski instructor and video creator Marius Quast shared a clip detailing how you should be carrying your skis, providing a detailed explanation of where and how to place them over your shoulder so you look like you know what you’re doing.
(NOTE: The Texas Suitcase, where your pole straps are wrapped around your skis to make a sort of handle, might seem convenient and easy, but you look like a goof while doing it. Avoid at all costs.)
