The fight to make uphill travel on skis easier is not a new one. Ski touring gear continues to get lighter, easier to use, and more comfortable. We’ve seen packable rope-tows, mini snowmobiles to take you up the mountain, and much more. But this combination of skis and a snowmobile is pretty new to our eyes.
The Vipera from Frigid Dynamics offers a ski experience like no other. With miniature snowmobile treads on the back of each ski, the Vipera allows users to travel over flatland and uphill near effortlessly.
The company claims that a single battery (on each ski) has the ability to take users up to 10 miles on one charge, with the gear reaching speeds up to 20mph. It’s quite a unique design and something I certainly wouldn’t be opposed to trying out.
Right now the Vipera is available for pre-order with a $199 refundable deposit. Those who pre-order will be able to purchase the device for $2,999, discounted from what will be the cost of $4,000.
